This Wednesday is the final ROCK of the school year. Thank you to everyone for donating, praying for the program, and volunteering this year. The program will be back in September. Please let Ashley know if you have interest in volunteering for the 2024-25 year. 

Saturday, May 18 is our monthly soup & sandwich luncheon. This is a free meal and time to fellowship from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. All are welcome

Sunday we will have one service at 10:00 a.m. with a potluck luncheon following. There will not be Sunday school, but there will be Jr. Church and a staffed nursery.

Weekend Announcements

We hope you can join us on Sunday to honor all of the moms here at 2nd Ave! Everyone is welcome to join us in the Gathering Place for the 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. coffee hour. The church will also provide a small gift to all of the mothers, grandmothers, and so on. 

Sunday’s message will be “C.S. Lewis for Today: Prayer” (1 Thessalonians 5:12-22). Services at 8:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

Next Sunday, May 19, we will have only one service at 10:00 a.m.

REMINDER! Ladies of all ages are welcome to join us for breakfast at Cracker Barrel tomorrow (Saturday, May 11) at 8:00 a.m. 

The final ROCK of the school year will take place next Wednesday, May 15. Thank you to everyone who donated, prayed, and volunteered this year. The ROCK will return in September.

Pastor Brian will perform a Blessing of the Pets on Sunday, June 30 at 3:30 p.m in the lot behind the garage on 2nd Street. You are welcome to bring your pets (of any and all kinds!) Please ensure that they are leashed, caged, etc. You can also bring a picture of your pet if it is more convenient for you and beneficial to your pet. 

2nd Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues will be paved on Monday and Tuesday next week (weather permitting), and the road will be closed. You will need to park in the elevator lot and walk around to the 2nd street door, or you can call the office and I will come let you in through the glass entrance.

This Tuesday, our executive committee will meet. Trustees will meet at 6:00 p.m., while the Church Council will meet at 7:00 p.m. 

Sunday, we will celebrate and honor the moms here at 2nd Ave, with a special coffee hour and a small gift from the church.

If you have a high school or college graduate you’d like us to recognize in our June newsletter and at our Graduation Sunday celebration on June 2, please email Jill their name, school, future plans (if they’d like to share), and a photo. The submission deadline will be Monday, May 13.

The final ROCK of the year will be held on Wednesday, May 15. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated, and prayed for the program this year. We’ll be back in September.

Vacation Bible School will be held July 8-12, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., for children ages 4 to entering fifth grade in the fall. You can register your children now by clicking here! If you are an adult and would like to help, please contact Ashley. 

The church office will be closed on Monday, May 27, and Thursday, May 30. 

Summer office hours will begin on Monday, June 3. The office will be staffed from 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Thursday. We will be available via email Monday through Friday until 4:00 p.m., as usual. 

Weekend Announcements

We hope you can join us on Sunday for Holy Communion at 8:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. The next message in our sermon series is “Engaging the World” (1 Peter 3:15-22). 

Between the 8:15 and 10:45 services, there will be Sunday school for children aged 4 to adults, as well as coffee hour in the Gathering Place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Next Sunday, May 12, we will honor the mothers here at 2nd Ave during coffee hour (all are welcome); there will also be a small gift from the church for the mothers.

There will be a Women’s Breakfast at Cracker Barrel on Saturday, May 11, at 8:00 a.m. Women and girls of any age are welcome. Please notify Vicky Plummer if you plan to attend.

Weekly Announcements

Join us Friday at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park for a fun day of bowling and roller skating. If you want to carpool or follow out, please meet at the church at 6 p.m. The event runs from 5:30 to 8:30 PM, but you are welcome to arrive earlier if you prefer. 

May will be the last month with a staffed nursery during the 10:45 service; June, July, and August will be a break for our volunteers; the nursery will be open as a cry room for children aged three and under and a related adult or caregiver. We need more volunteers to help us reopen the nursery this September. The number of volunteers has dwindled, and we no longer have enough to staff it weekly. Please contact Ashley if you have any questions or need more information on how to volunteer.

On Sunday, May 19, there will be a combined service at 10 a.m., followed by a potluck lunch. Sign up at the roundtable in the sanctuary. 

Jill is seeking assistance with running slides on Sundays when Andrew and Jill are unavailable at 10:45 a.m. (or 8:15 a.m. if preferred). Please let Jill know if you are interested. It’s very simple (just press the arrow key)!

Join us on Sunday as we continue our C.S. Lewis series with this week’s message “Calling.” Services at 8:15 and 10:45 a.m., and don’t forget to join us for coffee in between! 

The spring and summer Hope Chest clothing donations will be picked up at the Jaffa on Sunday evening. If you can assist in any way, it will be greatly appreciated. Please meet at the Jaffa at 5:00 p.m.

The deadline for submitting sign-ups and payments for the Youth Group’s Paint Party on May 4 at 2:00 p.m. is Monday, April 29 during office hours. The cost is $30, and all necessary supplies will be provided; the instructor will also outline the picture. You can view the image by going to the Facebook event.

Do not forget! Next Friday, a group will go skating and bowling at Morrisons Cove. Bowling costs $2, and skating costs $2; snacks and drinks are also available for purchase. (They accept cards and cash.)

If you have a high school or college graduate you’d like to recognize in our June newsletter, please send me their name, school, any future plans they’d like to share, and a photo by May 15. We will also celebrate the graduates on Sunday, June 2.

Tuesday, April 23, is election day, and we are a polling place; if you plan to visit the church, please use the 2nd St. door (unless you are coming to vote).

There will be no Bible Study this Thursday, April 25; Bible study will resume next Thursday at 10:00 a.m. 

Friday is our monthly Food Pantry Day. If you’d like to volunteer, please arrive at the Narnia Room (inside the glass doors) around 9:45 a.m. 

The church will organize a group to go bowling and roller skating at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park in Martinsburg on Friday, May 3. Please sign up if you intend to attend so that we can notify them if there is a large turnout. There will be a chance to carpool here at the church, or you can meet the group there. 

The Youth Group Paint Party is on Saturday, May 4, at 2:00 p.m. Please sign up by next Monday, April 29, and include your payment. The cost is $30 per individual. Everyone is welcome; it is open to the public. 

The May newsletters and calendars will be mailed tomorrow and emailed later this week. Please take some time to read through these so you don’t miss anything here at the church. Please keep in mind that the newsletter and calendars were printed before the combined service on May 19th was announced, so this is not mentioned in the newsletter.

We hope you will join us on Sunday as we continue our series “C.S. Lewis for Today” with this week’s message, Love. Pastor Brian will also continue his Sunday school class on Lewis’ book “Mere Christianity” in the social hall.

On Friday, May 3rd, we will be hosting a family night at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park in Martinsburg. Bowling (including shoes) and roller skating (including skates) cost only $2. Please sign up at the round table in the sanctuary so that we know how many to expect.

The Youth Group is hosting a Paint Party fundraiser on Saturday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m. The cost is $30 per person, and space is limited. To register for the event, please take an envelope from the round table and put your payment inside; place it in the offering plate. An image of what will be painted is linked below. Everything will be supplied, and the picture will be outlined; all you need to do is paint it! Must sign up and pay by April 29.

On Friday, May 3, join us at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park in Martinsburg for a fun evening of roller skating and bowling. 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The cost of bowling is $2, which includes shoes, and $2 for skating, which includes skates. Snacks and beverages are available for purchase. 

Please keep in mind that next Tuesday, April 23, is the primary election day; because the church is being used as a polling place, evening activities have been canceled, and if you need to visit the church on this day (for anything other than voting), please enter only from the 2nd Street side.
